WWDMAGIC and WHOS NEXT have enjoyed a partnership for the past few years.  As they prepare for their upcoming September show we provide WHOS NEXT with an opportunity to share with us what they’re currently working on in the city of lights.

Breaking in to the modern fashion industry is no easy task; amidst the current media overload finding recognition is now more difficult than ever. However the call for new innovation, creativity and fresh talent each season still exists and so young designers continue to attempt the climb. Now new platforms are popping up all over the place, giving young designers a head start on the road to recognition; the professional fashion trade show WSN are tapping into this bubble of possibilities with projects like their graduate fashion show and innovative fashion school lab.

The WSN graduate fashion show

20 industry professionals, 12 fashion schools, 1 runway show; the WSN graduate fashion show is a real hub of fresh creativity. Each year the WSN team attend the end of year showcases of 12 prestigious fashion schools in Europe and the US, hand picking their favourite graduates and then showing them the way to Porte de Versailles, Paris to present their collections in front of a whole host of industry professionals in a runway show. This position in a prime retail environment gives the students the chance to stand out entirely based on their talent and skill; and attract the attention of buyers, opinion leaders, media, basically all the networks they need to kick start their fashion careers!

List of participating schools:
Parsons, New York & Paris - Royal College of Art - Istituto Marangoni - ESMOD, Paris - University of Westminster, London - Studio Berçot, Paris - Polimoda, Florence - Paris College of Art, Paris - Atelier Chardnon Savard, Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués, Paris - LISAA, Paris

The Fashion School Lab
Fashion students are moving out of the atelier and into the lab! WSN furthers its work to showcase the talent of young designers with their fashion school lab, which has hosted some exciting collaborative projects with the help of pioneering fashion brands. Programmes like this are key in showing off the creativity and imagination that is bubbling away in the fashion schools of the world, and presents us with an exciting glimpse into the future of the industry.

The projects
The textiles department at ENSCI (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Création Industrielle) teamed up with espadrille experts Naguisa in an attempt to revamp this classic sandal.

- Students from the Troyes Ecole Supérieure de Design experimented with the possible uses of innovative material, hemp plastic.

- LISAA (L’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués) students focused their attention on reincarnating old jeans provided by the Kiliwatch Vintage Boutique through upcycling.

All the final works will be showcased at the September edition of WSN trade show in Paris.
