Joe Zee and Alex Badia Discuss 5 Fall Fashion Trends Consumers Will Buy

Sunday, March 15 2015

F/W 2015 apparel, accessories and footwear are heavily influenced by the 1970s and 1990s. Yahoo! Style's Editor-in-Chief, Joe Zee, and WWD's Fashion Director, Alex Badia, talk about the five fashion trends that consumer will be buying this fall. Watch the videos on how the choker, the denim skirt, the culotte, the brooch and the flare jean are style statements that all women will be purchasing.

Trend No. 1:  The Choker

The choker is no longer a velvet ribbon with a cameo. It is Mad Max meets dystopian worlds found in World War Z, Hunger Games and Divergent. It is Alexander McQueen meets Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Kayne West. From couture to big box retailers, Joe and Alex break down the hottest statement accessory of 2015.

Trend No. 2:  The Denim Skirt

From Devil Wears Prada homages to Louis Vuitton's F/W 2015 collection, 1970s style pencil or A-line denim skirts are a must for women this season. They are best worn with turtlenecks and high leather boots. Joe and Alex discuss which designers did the trend best and how buyers should approach it in their stores.

Trend No. 3:  The Culotte

The culotte is a hot fashion trend, but they are difficult to wear. They are great for volume play and silhoulette, but women need to wear them carefully. Joe and Alex talk about who designs the culotte best, how to style it and how to buy it successfully.

Trend No. 4:  The Brooch

The brooch is a grown up style statement for women in many consumer groups. The brooch can be worn in various ways. Joe and Alex talk about military embellishments, punk rock and how designers like Celine and Dior are using the brooch to create an androgynous cross-over between menswear and womenswear.

Trend No. 5:  The Flare Jean

For F/W 2015, buyers and designers are bringing back the flare jean - both standard and high-wasted flare bottom. While the 1970s is strong, skinny denim in performance fabrics is also holding strong. Joe and Alex talk about the designers doing this trend best.
